Danny Meyer

Danny Meyer

Founder and Executive Chairman, Union Square Hospitality Group

Born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, Danny Meyer grew up in a family that relished great food and hospitality. Thanks to his father’s travel business, which designed custom European trips, Danny spent much of his childhood eating, visiting near and far-off places, and sowing the seeds for his future passion. In 1985, at the age of 27, Danny opened his first restaurant, Union Square Cafe, launching what would become a lifelong career in hospitality.

Thirty years later, Danny’s Union Square Hospitality Group (USHG) comprises some of New York’s most beloved and acclaimed restaurants, including Gramercy Tavern, The Modern, and more. Danny and USHG founded Shake Shack, the modern-day “roadside” burger restaurant, which became a public company in 2015. USHG also offers event services, private dining, industry consulting, and educational programming.

Chef Michael Anthony

Mike Anthony

Executive Chef, Gramercy Tavern

Michael (Mike) Anthony has been the Executive Chef of Gramercy Tavern since September 2006. In this role, he leads the restaurant into its next chapter while staying true to its original vision: to honor the rich tradition of American cooking and bring guests together in a convivial spirit of community to enjoy exceptional, seasonal food.  Passionate about using ingredients that can be traced to their sources, Mike forges strong ties between the restaurant and local farmers.

Chef Mike was named one of Food & Wine magazine’s “Best New Chefs” in 2002 and was also lauded in Bon Appetit’s “Next Generation” in 2003. In 2012, Mike won the James Beard Award for “Best Chef in New York City” and in 2015, he won the James Beard Award for “Outstanding Chef,” a national recognition. In 2016, Chef’s book, V is for Vegetables, won the James Beard Award for “Vegetable Focused and Vegetarian” cookbooks.
