Dominick Purnomo
Owner, Dominick Purnomo Restaurant Group
Dominick Purnomo, the owner of the Dominick Purnomo Restaurant Group, which includes esteemed establishments like Yono’s and dp An American Brasserie, has a rich background in the culinary industry. Growing up in his family’s restaurant, he developed a passion for hospitality early on and studied Hotel & Restaurant Management at SUNY Morrisville.
Upon returning to Albany, he took charge of the family business and discovered his love for wine, inspired by fine dining experiences at places like Charlie Trotter’s and Lespinasse. At 25, he became the youngest President of the Greater Capital District of the New York State Restaurant Association and was a national finalist in the Best Young Sommelier Competition. His wine program received three James Beard Award nominations, and since 2004, Wine Spectator has recognized Yono’s wine list with the Best of Award of Excellence.
Dominick has been honored as a 40 Under 40 by the Albany Business Journal and praised by GQ as one of the #BestDressedSomms. He actively speaks at prestigious events and lectures at Cornell University’s Hotel School. He serves on several boards, including the New York State Restaurant Association and the Albany Convention Authority & the Regional Foodbank of Northeastern New York.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, he co-founded FEED ALBANY, providing meals to those in need, especially hospitality workers. His dedication earned him numerous accolades, including recognition as a Local Hero and a Jefferson Awards finalist. An advocate for the restaurant industry, he has lobbied for relief measures and successfully campaigned against certain tariffs.
Dominick resides in Albany with his wife, Kate, and their three daughters.
